Dance Classes

BHARATHANATYAM

The curriculum is divided into 3 different stages that all students must traverse before completing their training. Since different students have different levels of aptitude and interest, the pace of students will be on a case-by-case basis, although typically Stage 1 will take no more than 2 years.

Stage 1:

Dance Components Adavus (12 divisions of 5-10 variations each)
Theory Components Basic Sanskrit vocabulary and grammar structure,
History/Mythology, Selected slokas from Natyashastra/Abhinayadarpana

Stage 2:

Dance Components Natya Angas – Mallari, Pushpanjali, Kouthuvam, Alarippu,
Jathiswaram, Sabdham, Padam and Kirthanam
Theory Components Viniyogas, Abhinaya, Identification of Styles, Thala System and Panis.

Stage 3:

Dance Components Varnams, Kirtanams, Javalis, Astapathi and Thillana; Improvisation
Theory Components Nattuvangam (Intermediate level), Individual Research projects & Viniyogams in detail

TIMINGS

Beginners
Beginner Dance Classes – Saturdays 11.45am to 12.45pm and varies for different beginner levels
 
Intermediates
Intermediate Dance Classes (Level 1 and 2) – Saturdays 1.30 to 3.15pm
Intermediate Dance Classes (Level 3) – Saturdays 1.30 to 4pm, Wednesdays are recommended 
 
Advanced
Advance Dance Classes (Level 1 and 2) – Wednesdays 7:30 to 9pm Twice a week (week evenings) & Saturdays 4.00 to 5.30pm
