Are you a Dancer? Classically trained???
How to determine whether you are a dancer or not? Its easy to say and judge yourself – dancing to tunes, cannot sit at one place when you hear your favorite music, more expressive etc etc…. but classically trained??? It takes at least a set number of years if you are interested to pursue in learning a classical dance either its western style or Indian style. Set number of years depends upon the institution that renders and also depends on the dancer who learns + the style that marks it down.
Classical Dance either Ballet or Bharathanatyam or Kathak requires commitment, interest and hard work. Experience in learning bharathanatyam from proper expert teacher is a must to be classically trained and it cannot be earned in one or two years of learning. The standard between a learned bharathanatyam dancer and the dancer who has learned very few years without proper instructions shows a big difference from even a single pose they carry or even the hand gestures they show through poses or through lines or through the way they stand.
Performing on the stage first implies the deep reflection of the dance concepts or the lyric concepts which is expressed classically and through the dancer’s feelings. Firstly, it is a medium of theatrical expression. Secondly, a medium through which it links the connection between the music and dance. Thirdly, it showcases the dancer’s standard. But performing on the stage is not the ONLY result that a classically trained dancer should attain. KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICE of expressions and beats is the primary requirement of a classically trained dancer to be on the stage which is a MUST before one showcases his or her talent.
To know the difference whether one person is classically trained or not, better suggestion is to ask an opinion from an expert or from properly trained teacher or an instructor who has very well versed in the same dance field. Without direct opinion from them or a certification, one cannot consider themselves as classically trained dancer or perform with some assumption. It has its own dignity and respect; needs to be maintained. Strongly feel pathetic for those who lose the standard for the sake of deniable note and also not aware of the latter’s existence!
